What is a Digital Product Passport?
A Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a structured, public record about a product — what it is made of, where it was made, how to repair it, and what to do with it at the end of its life.
The QR code is just the doorway
Scanning a QR code on a product opens its passport. But the QR itself is only a link. The product is the passport: the structured data behind the link, kept accurate over time by the company responsible for the product.
That is why TagPass is infrastructure, not a QR generator. We create, host, publish and maintain the passport itself.
What a passport contains
- Identity — brand, model, GTIN or batch identifiers
- Materials & substances — composition and substances of concern
- Manufacturing — where and how it was made
- Environmental — footprint and recycled content, where applicable
- Repair & spare parts — how to keep it in use longer
- End of life — how to recycle or dispose of it responsibly
- Compliance & supply chain — certificates and actors
The EU DPP Registry stores identifiers, not passports
The EU DPP Registry stores identifiers and registration metadata — not the complete passport. The detailed data stays decentralized, hosted by the economic operator or a DPP service provider such as TagPass.
Crucially, the economic operator — the manufacturer, importer or distributor — remains responsible for the accuracy of the information. TagPass provides the infrastructure; the responsibility stays with you.
Regulation arrives progressively
Not every product category is regulated yet. Battery passports are defined; textiles, tyres, steel, aluminium and others are expected later. We label every category honestly:
